Obviously, I’m kidding but not completely as I was guilty of this myself because let’s be honest: 90% of the “Life Coaches” out there’s greatest success in life is…well; being life coaches. So, I was turned off by the term, the practice and quite frankly the entire “self-help” industry.

In 2021 I was in rehab (yes that rehab) and a guy that I was helping asked me if I did “life coaching” as a job. I told him a heavy handed and emphatic “NO” then gave him a healthy dose of my distain for that term, etc. He then said something I’ll never forget: “You realize you are a life coach you’re just doing it for free right?” The student has become the master. He walked away leaving me speechless. I thought about it all day and after way too much thinking I could only come to one conclusion: “I WAS a life coach.”. Shit. So, I hated myself for a good day or two before I finally accepted what I was and became determined to make this my actual profession. Why “Greyman”? I called it Greyman as I didn’t want it to be a brand that was just me. Don’t get me wrong Tony Robbins is amazing, but I know that at some point with any brand you need to be able to expand and I wanted the ability to be able to bring other great coaches on board. What the term means to me is that nothing is black or white which in today’s society and climate is a bold statement. Greyman is independent of the crowd yet a part of it. It is being a strong individual while at the same time not asking for attention. Being a Greyman is blending in while being able to standout. It is a flux, a contradiction, a flow state.

Despite what many people think there are no “naturals” whatever I do great now I didn’t the first time I tried. NO ONE is jumping on a motorcycle the first time and doing backflips but for some reason people think to be successful at something you shouldn’t fail. YouTube and the Internet has made that worse as when you watch “Dude Perfect” you see the results but not the 1000 attempts. It should be noted that with most that is intentional; those people want to make themselves look cool by showing only the results. Sadly, this has done a major disservice to the younger generations by making them thing that they didn’t fail a million times to achieve success.

I will push you to try, to push harder, to go further than you ever have. That will result in failure. Then I will push you to do it again. This is where most people stop and where it is hard to keep going without someone giving you the structure to learn from that failure, apply the lessons, move forward and hold you accountable.
